Thing is, I got an urge today. I drew this nonstop for almost 3 hours. I was driven. And when it was done (though it was not finished, it was done) I know it looks like a friend of mine, Nanakyi.
In fact, it might be her. I would not doubt it.
This one...this is special. This picture wanted to be drawn. THis picture feels like a culmination of all those sketches. This is something...something. I don't know what.
And I apologize for creating it, to Nanakyi, for this. It was not my intention, but I will not hide it.
I did not create it for the joy of others. I created it becuase it wanted to be drawn, I needed to draw it. So it is drawn. Created.
First impression - you need a new scanner/camera/touchup program. The compression is horrible, which will make further comments a little more difficult. (Not your fault, but if I'm noticing the compression artifacting, I'm not looking at the art. Presentation is important.)
That out of the way... This is a beautiful piece of work. The proportions look great, and I love the lines and shading. The hair especially. (I'm jealous.) The right front paw looks like it's hanging a bit awkwardly - it's too stiff or something - and the one visible leg looks odd as well, as if all the weight is resting on just the paw, which is so far forward. And I'm a bit confused by some of the things near the head - are those two long horns sticking out the back, or is that something else? And is that a horn on her nose? I'm also wondering why you call it blasphemy, and feel compelled to apologize, and just what's written there?
Lots of questions, and some criticism that I hope is constructive and helpful. I love your style, though, and I understand about feeling compelled to draw something, and how that can push aside normal artistic conventions.
*chuckles* the scan sucks because I"m using an old scanner at home, and I scanned it while the pic was still in the sketchbook. I plan on cleaning it up soon. And reposting/editing it to put in a cleaner one.
Thank you for the comments about it. The paws did look awkward ( I suck at those), but I've been working on those by studying animal paws, like dog and cat paws. Those are all horns, the one on her nose, the two on her neck, and the two on her head.
The reason I called it blasphemy is because the person who's pic this is like, she holds something like this to be her form, rather like I have my dragon form. It'd be kinda like if someone drew me as a large rabbit, or a deer, instead of as a dragon. I called it that, and apologized, because although I like it, she may not, and she may actually find it quite offensive, I don't know.
The writing on it is something in reference to her, hopefully a new scan will clean it up a bit. I hope.
Thank you so much for the long, in-depth comment like that. I appreciate that. And thanks for the fave as well.
*flexes ears* It looks like a battle form of mine...*sways* And you don't have to appoligize...if you feel that guily, just link to my gallery...*tilts head* ...with my dreams of late, I am not surprised this would have come through...
Oddly...my handel used to be Screaming Blasphemy...funny coincidence...
*rolls ears* and considering it has all my markings, I dont think this is a creature that just "looks" like me...I am the soul barer of some of my marks...so that answers your question there...I had a dragon form a long time ago...it vanished when Night-Singer awakened for she is one of all parts...
You're quite welcome! I don't comment very often, but I like to make every one count. I prefer getting constructive, useful criticism to a "oh, that's good," so I try to give that as well.
Thanks for the clarification. It does make a lot more sense now, though I don't think I'd be offended if someone randomly drew my dragon form. Even if it didn't look exactly like I imagine myself to look - artistic liberty is a wonderful thing. Sometimes someone else's rendering of one of your characters can give you a whole new perspective on the character, and that can be amazingly useful. (I also wouldn't be offended if someone portrayed me as another animal, as long as I could see some sort of reason/connection. Dragons are versatile creatures who often seem to have traits of a lot of other animals.)
I apologize for lurking so much and commenting so rarely, but I do love to see your work. If you ever want a critique, just poke me! I'll be glad to help, either here or on Draconic. (I mostly lurk there too.)
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
